The European Paediatric Influenza Analysis (EPIA) project is a multi-country effort that began in 2008 to assess the burden of disease in children using virologic and ILI consultation data.  The current focus is on more severe outcomes (i.e., hospitalizations and deaths).
The primary goal of the EPIA project is to generate an evidence base for decision making in individual European countries to support policy discussions regarding paediatric influenza vaccination.  According to a recent ECDC report, a key barrier to decision making is the lack of high-quality, European-specific data on disease burden, especially for young children.

EPIA operates in an open manner with other countries and organizations, to address this data analysis need.
